About Fallingleaf

As the ground serves to collect and absorb fallen leaves, this journal’s purpose is to collect and absorb my thoughts and musings … what might grow from such soil only the gods can know.

Sylvan Reverie is first and foremost a personal journal, intended more for reflecting than informing. Secondly, Sylvan Reverie expresses my connection with, and fondness for, the Standing Ones (trees). The blog’s original title was Autumnal Soul, named for my favorite time of the year, and also a symbol with which I feel a profound connection. The grey forest is my metaphor for the mind, as well as sometimes serving to represent larger domains.

As for me – I imagine I’m just a visitor in the forest like anyone else. I didn’t make the trees, and I don’t make the leaves … I simply choose what I would more closely inspect, and might sometimes influence where the leaves land as I make my journey through the grey forest.

That being said, I’m in my late thirties, and live with my wife, son and cats somewhere along the coast of the North Sea. I’ve lived in several other places in my life, I speak more than one language, and would be interested in learning more. I enjoy mostly cerebral activities, or physical activities that allow me to remain lost in thought. I enjoy numerous types of music, but typically gravitate toward music in which I can actually lose my mind for a while. I enjoy movies, but am longing for that one magical film that combines the moving powers of Shakespeare and Beethoven, a film I believe has yet to be made (although Star Trek II came close, in my opinion). Literature is also of great interest to me, and I’m well-read in a fairly broad spectrum of genres. Despite my love for the cerebral in life, I also count athletics, wilderness survival and community service among my favorite collected experiences.

Favorite colors: (depending on mood) amber, burnt umber, burgundy, ochre, auburn, copper, sepia, rust, charcoal grey, silver and sometimes fern green
Favorite foods: fried potatoes, fried chicken, smoked eel, calamares and ham hocks
Political orientation: I prefer to focus more on policy than politics – that considered, I would call myself libertarian
